If, like most people, you want Jennifer Aniston's blonde one moment and Penelope Cruz's raven locks the next, then here's the truth – it's just not going to happen. The sad fact is that not only will dramatic colour changes ruin your hair and ravage your wallet, the chances are that your face and skin tone simply won't suit two such opposing styles.
The trick to making a change is to find the colour that suits you, be it blonde, brunette or red and then experiment with the shade.
If you want to inject a healthy glow into your appearance this summer you need to ensure that the colour of your highlights enhances your face and doesn't detract from it.
Philip Lester, Creative Director at Scene – The Salon in Charlton Kings, says: “It's important to pair warm skin colour with warm hair colours, while cool skin colours should be matched with cooler colours. So if you've got a warm skin tone opt for auburns, reds, coppers and gold. If your skin tone is cool you should be experimenting with colours that are ash-based.”
*Top tip - Not sure what skin colours you have? Check the veins on the inside of your wrist; rumour has it that blue veins signify a cool complexion, while green veins indicate a warm one. Also, blue or green eyes are generally a sign of cool skin while hazel and browns represent a warmer colouring.
If you're keen to make a change and you're lucky enough to have green eyes, then go red – it will look trendy and make your eyes pop! There are plenty of different shades, certainly one for most complexions.
